Game Art

This is from my unfinished game from Ludum Dare 29 with the theme “Beneath the Surface.” I was inspired by a conversation I had with a friend earlier that day about how people are different when you get to know them beneath the surface stuff and talk straight with them. I thought of a hero whose weapon is powered by the truth, and who has to fight a monster that feeds on white lies. When you tell the truth your attacks are more powerful but you move slower, when you lie your attacks are weaker but you move faster.

I animated the sprite in Illustrator, painted the monster and the backgrounds in Photoshop, and used Unity’s new 2D features for the first time.  I also learned how to use Spriter, which is much simpler to animate in than Illustrator. Sadly was not able to finish because of other projects that were due, but I plan to continue working on it. Apologies for the framerate and resolution issues with the gif.

I hacked this lovely lady together from 3 different models and rigged her myself. Her design is based on The Stalk from Saga, the comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples.
